Learning Objectives
The overall content of the Reconstructors Project is to increase
students' science knowledge based on the latest research about the
biological effects of club drugs to promote personal choices that
support health and well-being.
Within this framework, the project team has identified three episodes
with the following learning objectives:
The student will:
EPISODE ONE
- Distinguish the physiological effects of a stimulant and a hallucinogen.
- Recognize that certain substances are abused stimulants and hallucinogens.
- Identify the parts and the functions of the brain affected by stimulants.
- Interpret data and draw conclusions from virtual experiments on the effects of certain drugs on heart rate.
EPISODE TWO
- Analyze the content of unknown substance (drugs) using mass spectrometry.
- Examine the negative social and health consequences of club drugs.
- Know basic characteristics of different types of club drugs.
- Select behaviors that would avoid the risks of club drugs.
EPISODE THREE
- Analyze the short-term and long-term effects associated with taking Ecstasy based upon current research.
- Recognize the importance of serotonin in regulating mood, memory, and other body functions.
- Know how Ecstasy alters the normal communication between neurons.
- Identify problems and approaches in studying Ecstasy.
